Jakarta: The Jakarta Provincial Government and the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council are currently formulating a regional regulation (perda) to tackle the spread of covid-19 in Indonesia's capital.
"The perda will stipulate punishments for covid-19 protocol violators," the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council Speaker Prasetio Edi Marsudi said here on Wednesday.
On September 14, the Jakarta Provincial Government decided to impose Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) in the region. According to Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, the policy aims to lower covid-19 hospitalization rate in the province. However, many residents are still reluctant to obey health protocols.
"Even some educated people refuse to wear face masks," Prasetio stated.
On Wednesday afternoon, the National Covid-19 Handling Task Force confirmed 4,465 new covid-19 cases, bringing the total nummber of confirmed covid-19 cases in Indonesia to 257,388.
From Tuesday noon to Wednesday noon, the total number of covid-19 recoveries increased by 3,660 to 187,958, while the total number of confirmed covid-19 deaths rose by 140 to 9,977.
