Jakarta: Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has explained that malls, shopping centers and traditional markets will be able to operate during the upcoming Larga-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) period by applying strict coronavirus disease 2019 (covid-19) health protocols.

"Traditional markets and shopping centers will be allowed to open but they will only be allowed to operate at 50 percent capacity," Anies said during a press conference here on Sunday.

"Restaurants and cafes inside malls can only provide take away and delivery services," he added.

The Jakarta provincial government plans to reintroduce PSBB measures on September 14. The policy aims to lower the covid-19 hospitalization rate in Indonesia's capital.

The regional government previously implemented PSBB for around two months from April to June. The regional government changed its policy to transitional PSBB in early June.

According to the Jakarta governor, PSBB will be implemented for two weeks. However, it could be extended if necessary.
