Medan: The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) detected seven hotspots in several areas of North Sumatra Province, a decline from nine spotted on the previous day.
According to a written statement from the BBMKG Region 1 Medan here on Thursday, the seven hotspots are spread across four regions comprising one hotspot in Deliserdang Regency, another one in Mandailing Natal, two hotspots in North Padang Lawas, and three hotspots in South Tapanuli.
With regard to the weather forecast, the BMKG warned of likely moderate to heavy rains accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in several areas of the province.
Rainfall can be experienced in the eastern slopes, mountainous areas, and western slope regions of the province, with the likelihood of rains causing floods and landslides.
Meanwhile, the air temperature was recorded between 24.0 and 32.0 degrees Celsius, humidity of 60-98 percent, and wind speeds of 10-30 km/hour from the Southwest to the Northeast.
Moderate-category sea waves of 1.25-2.5 meters in height are estimated to arise in the northern waters of Sabang; northern part of Malacca Strait; West Aceh waters; Indian Ocean, west of Aceh; Nias-Sibolga waters; and in the Indian Ocean, west of Nias.
