Jokowi to Inaugurate Jakarta MRT on March 24

Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is set to lead the inauguration ceremony of the first phase of the Jakarta mass rapid transit (MRT) project that will be held on March 24.
 
"It will be inaugurated on March 24 by President Jokowi. The cereomony will be centralized at Bundaran Hotel Indonesia station," PT Moda Raya Terpadu Jakarta (MRT Jakarta) finance director Tuhiyat told the press on Monday.
 
The MRT Jakarta official said the former Jakarta governor will inspect the project on Tuesday. The official added that the PDIP politician will be accompanied by his cabinet members.

The first phase of Jakarta MRT will connect Bundaran Hotel Indonesia in Central Jakarta and Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta. The route will have 7 elevated stations and 6 underground stations.
 
According to reports, the proposed ticket price is Rp10 thousand per passenger. In the meantime, the proposed subsidy is Rp21 thousand per passenger. 
 
The central government has ordered regional leaders in Jakarta, West Java and Banten provinces to improve transportation infrastructures in Greater Jakarta area. It has allocated funds to help resolve transportation issues in the capital special region and its satellite cities.
 
The Greater Jakarta region comprises Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi. The area has a population of more than 28 million people.
 
It is the most populous urban area in Indonesia. It is also the center of government and economy of the country.
 
President Jokowi recently said that the government's infrastructure policy is designed to boost the country's competitiveness. President Jokowi also reiterated that his infrastructure push is needed to reduce socio-economic inequality.
 
Quoting a report from the Central statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesian economy grew by 5.17 percent in 2018. It was Indonesia's highest annual growth in five years.
 
In the meantime, Indonesian economy grew by 5.18 percent in the fourth quarter of 2018. The growth was slightly stronger than earlier expectations.
