Jakarta: The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has imposed an overseas travel ban on House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Azis Syamsuddin over an alleged bribery case.
The anti-graft body penned a letter to the Directorate General of Immigration at the Law and Human Rights Ministry on Tuesday to prevent Syamsuddin from traveling abroad, acting spokesman for the commission Ali Fikri noted in a written statement released on Friday.
The Commission additionally urged the directorate general of immigration to ban two other people from travelling abroad for allegedly involvement in the case.
"The overseas travel ban is valid for six months starting from April 27, 2020," he noted.
The alleged graft case came to the light after Syamsuddin was believed to have bribed law enforcers to not investigate the bribery case involving KPK investigator Stepanus Robin Pattuju (SRP) and colleagues.
On Wednesday, the KPK searched the working room of Syamsuddin at the parliament building and his official residence in Jakarta.
During the raid, the KPK investigators seized several documents as evidence.
