Jakarta: Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo has confirmed that the government will isolate the distribution route from areas endemic to the hog cholera virus or classical swine fever disease in pigs.
"We will conduct the isolation of its distribution, specifically for import and export trade. However, we still need to forge coordination with other stakeholders," Limpo state here on Monday, November 18, 2019.
According to reports, the virus has resulted in the deaths of around 5,800 pigs in 11 regions in North Sumatra province.
The regions are Dairi, Humbang Hasundutan, Deli Serdang, Medan, Karo, Toba Samosir, Serdang Bedagai, Tapanuli Utara, Tapanuli Tengah, Tapanuli Selatan, and Samosir.
During the meeting with Commission IV of the House of Representatives (DPR), the NasDem Party politician stated that the ministry will have in place a measure of temporary isolation.
The measure is viewed as a way to halt the spread of the virus to other livestock, whilst the government is concurrently working on a preventive solution to the disease. (Antara)
