Jakarta: President Joko Widodo has the prerogative to appoint and dismiss ministers. However, it turns out that Jokowi is not completely powerless in exercising his prerogative.
This can be seen from the recognition of PDIP Politician Budiman Sudjatmiko. He admitted that he failed to become a minister several times even though the offer was directly from the palace and Jokowi.
The first was in 2014. Prior to the inauguration of Jokowi's cabinet, Budiman was supposed to become Minister of Villages. He received information from Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.
"There was a statement by Pak Pratikno, 'Mas Budiman, Pak Jokowi has just created the Ministry of Villages. Actually the ministry is for you. But because there are political dynamics, it must be handed over to others'. It's okay, there's no problem," said Budiman in Tennis Indoor Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, 22 August 2023.
Then in 2015, Budiman immediately received an offer from Jokowi. He was summoned to the palace.
Again, he still failed to become a minister even though he was called by Jokowi. Likewise when they met in Solo in the same year.
He was again promised to become a minister by Jokowi and this was not proven due to political dynamics. Budiman was disappointed and emphasized that he did not have to become a minister to manage the village.
“Sir, I am not really passionate to be a minister, besides when it comes to village affairs, I can move villages without having to become a minister," said Budiman.
