Vienna: Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker, Puan Maharani, led the Indonesian delegation in the 5th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament (WCSP) that was held on September 6-9 in Vienna, Austria.
Participation of the Indonesian delegation in the forum is one of the form of Indonesian parliament’s commitment to be consistent in implementing diplomacy.
"By following WCSP, Indonesian parliament can contribute in sharing views on how to increase leadership in several issues during and post covid-19 pandemic," said Puan in a written statement on Tuesday.
As the DPR Speaker, Puan took an important role by being part of the Preparatory Committee that was tasked to prepare the event.
On the first day, the delegation, accompanied by Indonesian Ambassador to Austria and the United Nations (UN), Dr. Darmansjah Djumala, actively participated in the 13th Summit of Women Speakers (SWS) that is part of the WCSP.
In the forum, the DPR Speaker contributed as one of the panelists with the motion about the role of female healthcare personnel on the frontline of the covid-19 pandemic.
Moreover, Indonesian parliament delegation also held bilateral meetings with the Speaker of the Austrian Parliament as the host and the Speaker of the Vietnamese Parliament. (Translator: Natasha Celia)
