Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) once again visited the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Wiranto at the Gatot Soebroto Army Central Hospital, Central Jakarta. Wiranto's condition was stable after undergoing surgery.

"He (Wiranto) spoke to me earlier and said, 'Sir, I want to go home to join the meetings again.' It means that his condition has gotten better," Jokowi explained on Friday, October 11, 2019.

Jokowi hopes that Wiranto can resume activities and complete his duties as Menkopolhukam. The President explains that the working period of the cabinet is about to start.

"We pray together that he will immediately recover and regain his health as soon as possible," said Jokowi.

Wiranto who had just gotten out of the car to shake hands with the residents was attacked by suspected terrorists Syahril Alamsyah alias Abu Rara and Fitri Andriana using a knife. The attack occurred after Wiranto attended the inauguration of a joint lecture hall at the University of Matlaul Anwar in Kampung Cikaliung, Sindanghayu Village, Saketi District, Banten, Thursday, October 10, 2019.

Wiranto suffered stab wounds in the lower abdomen. He was then rushed to the Berkah Pandeglang Hospital to receive treatment. He was then transferred by helicopter to the Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital in Jakarta.

Police identified the assailants as 31-year-old Syahril Alamsyah and his wife, Fitri Andriana, 21. Both are believed to have been linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) group.
