Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated a new terminal of Depati Amir airport during his visit to the the Bangka Belitung city of Pangkalpinang on Thursday, March 14, 2019.
"The right wing of the airport would be expanded by the government. The capacity would be increased to 3 million," the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician added.
"Insya Allah (God Willing), the expansion would be completed by 2020," the former Jakarta governor said.
In Pangkalpinang, President Jokowi also led the unveiling ceremony of Tanjung Kelayang special economic zone. Besides that, President Jokowi also distributed land certificates to local residents.
Tanjung Kelayang is located about 28 kilometers from Tanjung Pandan city in Belitung island. It is one of the most beautiful beach in Belitung island.
The region is a perfect place for exotic travel and panorama. It is not only popular to domestic tourists but also foreign tourists.
The government revealed that the project would cover 324.4 hectares of land. It hopes that the special economic zone could attract Rp9 trillion worth of investments.
"The Tanjung Kelayang Special Economic Zone could boost Bangka Belitung province's revenue. The increase could reach 300 percent," President Jokowi explained.
In 2000, Bangka Belitung province was created by the central government. Before the creation of the province, the region was administered by South Sumatra province.
Quoting a report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia recorded 15.8 million foreign tourist arrivals throughout 2018. The number increased by 12.58 percent compared to the previous year.
The country welcomed 1.41 million foreign tourist arrivals in December 2018. It increased by 21.43 percent compared to the previous month.
The room occupancy rate of star classification hotels in Indonesia reached an average of 59.75 percent in December 2018. It decreased by 0.44 percentage point compared to the previous month.
