Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said that all regions in Indonesia should have equal access to coronavirus disease 2019 (covid-19) tests.
"I see that there are provinces that have high number of tests and there are provinces that have low number of tests," President Jokowi told a cabinet meeting here on Monday.
President Jokowi instructed Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto to establish a comprehensive testing strategy. The president explained that a comprehensive system could help map the latest covid-19 situation in Indonesia. He added that covid-19 testing should not be hindered by administrative obstacles.
"A comprehensive network of labs is crucials. Their activities should not be limited by administrative divisions. A grand design must be carefully prepared," he stated.
As of September 1, Indonesia’s covid-19 recovery rate is higher than that of the global average with 128,057 cases (72.1 percent), while the global average is at 69.97 percent.
Regarding the development of the weekly risk zoning map, there are 65 high-risk regencies/cities with red zones, 230 medium risk regencies/cities with orange zones, 42 regencies/cities with no new cases, and 26 regencies/cities with green zones.
