Mudik Ban Will be Implemented on April 24: Minister

Jakarta: Acting Minister of Transportation Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has revealed that the ban on this year's Eid annual exodus will be implemented on Friday, April 24, 2020.
 
"The ban will be implemented on Friday. We will prepare several punishments. These punishments will be effective on May 7, 2020," Luhut said here on Tuesday, April 21, 2020.
 
According to the minister, the ban will be introduced in regions who have implemented large-scale social restrictions, including Jakarta, Bogor, Depok and Tangerang and Bekasi.

The exodus is known in Indonesia as mudik. Millions of people leave urban areas to their hometowns during Eid-al-Fitr holiday.
 
"We have banned civil servants, military officers and police officers from participating in the annual mudik last week. We decided to ban all people from partipating in the annual mudik during today's meeting," the former Jakarta governor said here on Tuesday, April 21, 2020.
 
As of Monday noon, April 20, 2020, the National Task Force for Acceleration of Covid-19 Response has recorded 7,135 confirmed covid-19 cases, 842 recoveries and 616 deaths.
