Jakarta: The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Central Kalimantan on Thursday detected as many as 49 hotspots caused by land and forest fires.
Based on data from the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN), the hotspots were scattered around seven regencies and one city.
The affected regions were Pulang Pisau regencies (21 hotspots), South Barito regency (nine hotspots, Kapuas regency (eight hotspots), East Barito regency (four hotspots), East Kotawaringin regency (two hotspots), Lamandau regency (two hotspots), Seruyan regency (one hotspot) and Palangkaraya city (two hotspots).
“The air quality in Palangkara was classified into medium-to-low category. Meanwhile, The air quality in Pangkalan Bun, Muara Teweh and Sampit was good, ” National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) acting spokesperson Agus Wibowo said here on Thursday.
He added that haze in Central Kalimantan affected visual range and visibility.
In order to tackle the gaze, local authorities have deployed as many as 1,512 personnel to carry out water bombing as well as mop-up operations across the province.
The joint personnel consist of 705 volunteers, 500 soldiers, 205 police officers and 102 BPBD officers.
