Jakarta: The explosion occurred near the Istiqlal Mosque, Central Jakarta. The boom was said to have originated from a suspicious object that was destroyed by the police.
"Yes, a suspicious object was blown up by the police," Istiqlal Mosque Abu Hurairah from Community Relations told Medcom.id, Jakarta on Monday, December 16, 2019.
Location of the source of the explosion is between the Istiqlal Mosque and the Sriwijaya Hotel. The explosion was heard at 14.00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB). However, he did not yet know for sure what the object was.
"It happened 30 minutes ago," he said.
Abu made sure the conditions around the Istiqlal Mosque were safe. The Police Gegana Special Operations Team has secured the location of the explosion as well as the discovery of the suspicious object.
"Safe, conducive. It's just a suspicious object," he said.
