Jakarta: PT LRT Jakarta hopes that the Jakarta light rail transit project could get operation permit in the near future.
According to the PT LRT Jakarta management, the company has acquired recommendations from the Transportation Ministry. In addition to that, it also has gathered inputs from related officials.
"We are only waiting for the operation permit," PT LRT Jakarta president director Iwan Takwin told the press on Tuesday.
The region-owned company began a public trial run on Tuesday morning. The company stated that the public trial run is free-of charge.
As many as five stations are open during the public trial run. The stations are North Boulevard, South Boulevard, Pulomas, Equestrian, dan Velodrome.
"It is operational from 05:30 a.m. until 11:00 p.m." PT LRT Jakarta corporate communication manager Melisa Suciati explained.
In early 2019, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo warned that mismanagement of transportation system and and traffic will further worsen traffic in Greater Jakarta. However, the former Jakarta governor expressed optimism that the operation of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT), as well as the existing services such as TransJakarta, airport trains, and the commuter line will help ease traffic congestion in the area.
“So, the number of cars on the road can be significantly reduced,” Cabinet Secretary's Website quoted the president as saying.
