Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated a number of projects in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan on Wednesday, December 18, 2019. The projects are the final waste disposal area in Manggar, a water processing instalation in Teritip and a dam.

"I inaugurated the Manggar Final Waste Disposal Area, the Teritip Water Processing Instalation and a dam this morning. The constructuon of the project were not costly," President Jokowi told reporters after the inauguration ceremony.

According to the former Jakarta governor, the Manggar Final Waste Disposal Area is the most advanced sanitary landfill in the country. Moreover, the landfill can accommodate as many as 400 tons of waste per day.

Balikpapan Mayor Rizal Effendi said that the project was also funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). He believes that the 50-hectare landfill does not need to be expanded for the next seven years.

"In Balikpapan, waste sorting is partly started at the household" the mayor told President Jokowi during the event.

"It can last for more than seven years so we don't need to expand the place," he added.
