Jakarta: The Traffic Directorate of the Jakarta Metro police has asked the Jakarta provincial government to procure additional 81 electronic traffic law enforcement (ETLE) cameras.
“The state-of-the-art cameras are expected to be operational at the end of this year,” Jakarta Metro Police traffic vice-director Muhammad Nasir said here on Wednesday, September 25, 2019.
According to Nasir, the cameras can be operated earlier than expected. The cameras will be scattered across 37 spots.
“From Grogol to Cawang, then from Cawang to Cempaka Putih, then again from Rasuna Said to Gunung Sahari. And the last one is from Kota Tua to Fatmawati,” said Nasir.
The cameras will record several offences, one of which is the passing of traffic marks and traffic lights. The cameras later will also detect odd-even violations and other violations.
The regional police currently operates 12 ELTE cameras. Two of them have been operated since November 2018. Meanwhile, 10 of them were added in July 2019.These 12 cameras are placed in the areas of Sudirman and Thamrin.
The e-ticketing system is said to be capable of reducing the traffic violation rate up to 40 percent. In
the future, the system is also targeted to reduce the rate up to beyond 50 percent. (Translator: Muhammad Gestinev)
