Jokowi Explains Efforts to Extinguish Land, Forest Fires

Pekanbaru: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has defended the government's efforts to extinguish land and forest fires in Riau and Riau Islands provinces.
President Jokowi is scheduled to inspect land and forest fires in Merbau village, Bunut sub-district, Pelalawan regency and Rimbo Panjang village, Tambang sub-district, Kampar regency.
"All measures have been done. We have dumped water on the burning land. We have added more firefighters. A total of 5,600 personnel have been deployed," said President Jokowi in Riau on Tuesday, September 17, 2019.

"We will create artificial rain again. We did it last friday. Thank God we succeeded to create artifial rain in Indragiri Hilir. We will disperse salt again," President Jokowi added.
National Police chief General Tito Karnavian has ordered all regional police chiefs throughout Indonesia including the provinces Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and Central Kalimantan, North Sumatra, Lampung, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Nusa Tenggara, and provinces in Java to take legal actions against forest fires suspects.
The National Police leader has also announced a reward and punishment system for the regional police to encourage them to perform better.
