Surabaya: The East Java Police has announced that authorities will deploy as many as 9,761 security personnel to secure the Eid al-Fitr exodus in May-June 2019.

"There will be 7,204 police officers, 1,500 military officers, 975 Transportation Agency officers and 82 Jasa Raharja officers," East Java Police head Inspector General Luki Hermawan said here on Tuesday.

According to him, authorities will prepare security posts in 319 locations. In addition to that, law enforcement officers will increase police presence in four traffic jam-prone areas.

"The four traffic jam prone areas are Jalan Mengkreng Nganjuk, Jalan Simpang Karanglo, Jalan Waru Gunung Sidoarjo and Jalan Bandar Kedung Mulyo Jombang," the police official noted.

As part of his working visit in East Java province on May 13, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated the operation of Pandaan-Malang Toll Road section I-III.  In his remarks at the inauguration ceremony, President Jokowi said that the long-awaited toll road would reduce Surabaya-Malang travel time from 3-3.5 hours to just one hour.

“There are 7.8 kilometers (of the toll road) that have not been completed. I have instructed (relevant parties) to complete the project by the end of the year,” Cabinet Secretary's website quoted President Jokowi as saying.

The toll road is intended to accelerate mobility of goods, services, and people. The project is also expected to provide access to Malang as a tourist destination.
