Jokowi Sends Condolences to Families of Sunken KRI Nanggala-402 Submarine Crew

Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has conveyed his condolences to the families of the 53 crew members of sunken KRI Nanggala-402 submarine.
 
On Saturday, the Indonesian Navy raised the status of KRI Nanggala-402 from lost contact (submiss) to sinking (subsunk).
 
"We the Indonesian people would like to express our deepest sorrow for this tragedy," said President Jokowi in a statement on Sunday.

"They are the best sons of the nation, the best patriots who guard the sovereignty of the country," he added.
 
On Wednesday morning, the Indonesian Navy's Cakra-class submarine went missing during a torpedo drill in the waters north of Bali island.
 
According to the President, Indonesian authorities will continue their best in the efforts to search and rescue.
 
"This tragedy has shocked us all, not only the families of the 53 crew members, the Hiu Kencana Corps as well as the entire Indonesian Navy, but also all Indonesian people," he stated.
 
"Let us send our prayers and best wishes to the 53 best patriots who have guarded the country's sovereignty. And, for all of the family members to be given patience, fortitude, and strength," he concluded.
