Jakarta: The Indonesian Air Force (AU) is ready to increase the number of evacuation aircraft for Indonesian citizens (WNI) residing in Wuhan and its surrounding areas. Hundreds of Indonesian citizens currently cannot leave because of access to Wuhan and surrounding cities were closed due to the coronavirus outbreak
"We will be ready," said Air Force Chief of Staff (KSAU) Marshal Yuyu Sutisna in Jakarta on Thursday, January 30, 2020.
Besides aircraft, Yuyu is also ready to prepare additional troops to pick up about 240 Indonesian citizens in Hubei province. He is waiting for the results of coordination meetings with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"The implementation depends on other stakeholders," he said.
The Indonesian Air Force has preaded three of its aircraft, consisting of two Boeing 737s and one C-130 Hercules to evacuate Indonesian citizens located in Wuhan and its surrounding areas.
The death toll due to the coronavirus outbreak in China has reached 170 people as of January 30, 2020. At least 7,736 patients were tested positive for coronavirus. About 124 people have been declared cured.
There are 102 Indonesians who have not been able to get out since the capital of Hubei Province was closed on Thursday, January 23, 2020. Several other cities in Hubei Province that have been closed also have Indonesian citizens, namely Xianning (55), Huangshi (52), Jingzhou (20), Xiangyang (3), Enshi (10), and Yinchang (2).
