Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has instructed the National Police and other related institutions to investigate the stabbing of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto.
"This afternoon I instructed the National Police, the State Intelligence Agency (BNI) and the National Armed Forces (TNI) to investigate the incident and carry out firm actions against the perpetrators and their terror network," Jokowi said here on Thursday, October 10, 2019.
Jokowi also urged the public to prevent radicalism and terrorism. He underlined that radicalism and terorism can only be tackled through cooperation of all elements of society.
"The main point is this terror network must be chased," he remarked.
The incident occured at Menes Square, Pandeglang, Banten this afternoon. A Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (DAH) member named Syahrul Alamsyah carried out the attack shortly after Wiranto got out of his vehicle.
Wiranto previously attended the inauguration of a joint lecture hall at the University of Matlaul Anwar in Pandeglang. He suffered stab wounds to the lower abdomen.
Wiranto was then rushed to a medical center in Pandeglang. He was then transferred to the Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital in Jakarta.
