Jakarta: Local governments have been asked to collaborate with local private laboratories in a bid to boost the number of covid-19 tests.
"There are disparities in testing between regions because there are capacity differences," Spokesperson for the Covid-19 Handling Task Force Prof. Wiku Adisasmito said in a statement on Tuesday.
As the center of socio-economic activities, many big cities have reached the target of the World Health Organization (WHO), which is 1000 per 1 million population per week.
Based on data from the Ministry of Health, several regions have exceeded WHO's target. Some of the province are Jakarta (3,084), East Kalimantan (2,157 people), Yogyakarta (1,198 people), North Sulawesi (1,197 people) and South Kalimantan (1,128 people).
However, several provinces that have quite a large number of Covid-19 patients have not yet reached the testing target. Some of the provinces are Central Java (411 people), West Java (301 people) and East Java (480 people).
"Of course, other regions must immediately follow the achievements of several successful provinces and regional leaders can immediately increase it with the help of the central task force," he said.
