Jakarta: Indonesia received hundreds of thousands of AstraZeneca vaccines from the Australian government through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten. The arrival of the 48th phase of the vaccine is the result of a dose-sharing mechanism.

"Thank God, today we received the arrival of 500 thousand doses of AstraZeneca Vaccine," said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi through the 'Presidential Secretariat' YouTube account, Thursday, September 2, 2021.

Retno said the vaccine was the first stage of delivery. The Australian government plans to provide support for 2.5 million doses of Indonesian vaccine through a bilateral mechanism.

Australia, said Retno, is also committed to supporting the procurement of vaccines for Indonesia worth AUD77.1 million. The procurement support will be channeled through UNICEF.

"Support for this vaccine cooperation is one of the topics of discussion, in my communication I called several times with the Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marise Payne, including the last one I did on July 7, 2021," said Retno.

He revealed that cooperation in handling covid-19 was also intensively carried out at the level of the highest leadership of the two countries, namely President Joko Widodo and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison. The two discussed opportunities for cooperation in handling covid-19 in the future.

Retno said that Indonesian and Australian government officials would also hold a meeting in the near future. A meeting to strengthen partnership, strategy and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries which was formed in 2018.

"This is a meeting between the foreign ministers, defense in this case is between Indonesia and Australia," explained Retno.
