Jakarta: President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has officially inaugurated Police Commissioner-General Idham Azis as Indonesian National Police chief.
The inauguration took place at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday, November 1, 2019.
Idham's appointment is based on Presidential Decree Number 97 of the National Police (Polri) 2019 concerning the appointment of the National Police Chief. The decree states the appointment of Idham Aziz as the Indonesian National Police Chief.
After the reading of the decree, Idham took the oath of office under the holy book. The former head of the Criminal Investigation Unit then signed the related document.
At the same time, Jokowi gave Idham a promotion from Commissioner General to four-star General. The ceremony was attended by the former Indonesian National Police chief and current Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto.
Idham was a graduate of the Police Academy in 1988. Idham's career in combating terrorism was quite brilliant. He was involved in an operation that killed Azahari and his terror group in Batu, East Java.
He also handled the Second Bali Bombing case in 2005 and led a number of counter-terrorism operations from 2005 until 2016.
