Jokowi Offers Condolences over Passing of Jakob Oetama

Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has offered his condolences over the passing of Kompas Gramedia group founder Jakob Oetama.
 
"I offer my condolences over the passing of Bapak Jakob Oetama, media figure, founder and leader of Kompas daily," the president said on his twitter page on Wednesday.
 
On Wednesday afternoon, Jakob Oetama, passed away at the age of 88. According to a press release from Mitra Keluarga Kelapa Gading Hospital, he passed away at around 13:05 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
 
Jakob was born in Borobudur, Magelang, Central Java on September 27, 1931. He founded Intisari magazine with P.K Ojong in 1963.
 
On June 28, 1965, Jakob and Ojong founded the Kompas daily. The business grew into one of the largest media conglomerates in the country.

"He will first be brought to Kompas Gramedia Building and then he will be laid to rest at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery," the Kompas Gramedia official said here on Wednesday.
