Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo hopes that the construction of Ciawi and Sukamahi Dams in Bogor regency can be completed before 2021.
President Jokowi said the two dams are needed to control flooding in the capital city of Jakarta. He explained that both dams are designed to hold rain water from areas around Mount Gede and Mount Pangrango.
"Prepare an umbrella before the rain. Build dams to prevent flooding. It is one of the purposes of Ciawi Dam," said Preisdent Jokowi on his official instagram account on Wednesday.
"The two dams are expected to be operational by 2021. But I hope the construction process can be completed faster than the initial schedule. I want that the projects can be completed before 2021," the former Jakarta governor said.
The water will first be accommodated in the two dams before being flowed to the Katulampa Dam, which will gradually flow the water to the capital.
For the record, Ciawi Dam has a volume of 6.45 million cubic meters of water or can hold up to 365 cubic meters of water per second, while Sukamahi Dam has a volume of 1.68 million cubic meters or can hold up to 56 cubic meters per second.
