Jakarta: The weather modification technology (TMC) has been successfully implemented in Dumai, Riau. Artificial rain fell for half an hour on Wednesday.
“The technology in Dumai has resulted in artificial rain falling at a moderate rate for 30
minutes exactly on Batu Tertitip Regency which is adjacent to Rokan Hilir,” said the
spokesperson for Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), Agus
Wibowo, on Thursday.
The technology was also implemented in other areas of The Province of Riau. It was
implemented by spreading salt using the Indonesian military aircrafts, such as the
Hercules C-130.
“The Hercules C-130 aircraft scattered 3.4 tons of salt to produce the rains in
areas such as Dumai and Rohil in Riau and Padang Sidempuan in North Sumatera,” said Agus.
Meanwhile, In areas of the Province of Central Kalimantan, the salt was scattered using
the CN 295 aircraft. The operation was conducted from 13.30 to 15.45 in the regencies
of Katingan, Palangka raya and Kapuas.
“The aircraft scaterred 1,500 kilograms of salt flying at the altitude of 8,000 feet,”
added Agus.
The technology will be implemented to produce artificial rain on other areas which are
still affected by land and forest fires.
“We will keep implementing the technology in other areas of the islands of Sumatera
and Kalimantan. We have requested three military aircrafts: one for Palangkaraya and
the other two for Pekanbaru,” said agus. (Translator: Muhammad Gestinev)
