Jakarta: The Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) looks forward to working together with the newly elected Defense Minister, Prabowo Subianto. Moreover, the commission wants to know about his upcoming plans.
“We want to know about the defense plans offered by the defense minister.” DPR Commission I member, Christina Aryani on Wednesday, October 30, 2019.
"We must improve our defense sector in anticipation of the threats against our territorial sovereignty, especially in the frontier regions,” the lawmaker said.
Christina who is a member of the Golkar Party also highlighted the important role that the Foreign Ministry plays in protecting Indonesian citizens abroad. She also praised President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo’s commitment to eradicate radicalism.
In relation to personal data protection and fake news eradication, the committee will cooperate with the Communication and Informatics Ministry. She said that the committee will also adress violence against women on social media.
The Gerindra Party Chairman, Prabowo Subianto was appointed as the defense minister for the Indonesia Onward Cabinet. Prabowo is thought as being capable in military matters.
Prabowo is also urged to increase the national defense industry so Indonesia will be less dependent on other nations in providing military weapon system. Besides that, Prabowo is also urged to focus on the welfare of the country's military personnel. (Translator:Muhammad Gestinev)
