6.0 Magnitude Quake Shakes Maluku

Maluku: The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced that a 6.0 magnitude earthquake shook Maluku province at 14.33 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.
 
With a depth of 63 kilometers, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 56 kilometers northwest of Saumlaki city in Maluku province.
 
"It was an intermediate earthquake," BMKG's Earthquake and Tsunami Center head Rahmat Triyono said.

According to him, the earthquake was strongly felt in Saumlaki and Tual. Fortunately, the earthquake did not trigger tsunami warnings.
 
"There are still no reports of damage and casualties," the BMKG official stated.
 
Rahmat urged people in Maluku province to stay calm. He also instructed local residents to check the condition of buildings in their neighborhood.
