Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized that the Way Sekampung Dam in Pringsewu, Lampung, which had just been inaugurated, must be able to provide real benefits to the community. Especially the farmers.
"We hope that this dam can provide the greatest benefit to the community, especially in order to support farmer’s production," said Jokowi when inaugurating the Way Sekampung Dam in Lampung, Thursday, September 2, 2021.
With a capacity of 68 million cubic meters, the reservoir, which was built with funds of Rp1.78 trillion, can irrigate 55 thousand hectares of existing irrigation canals. Including, 17 thousand new irrigation areas.
The Head of State advised the relevant ministers as well as the local government to synergies the dam with all irrigation channels starting from primary, secondary, tertiary to quarterly.
"With good water management from upstream to downstream, our national food barn can be realized. The intensity of planting can increase from the initial two plantings to three plantings a year. This means that production will increase and we hope that the welfare of farmers will also increase," said Jokowi.
In addition to working to support the development of the agricultural sector, the Way Sekampung Dam has a number of other roles. Among them, as a provider of raw water of 2.73 liters per second and a power plant of 5.4 megawatts as well as flood control.
