Number of Poor People in Indonesia Reaches 26.36 Million in September 2022: BPS

Jakarta: The percentage of Indonesian people living in poverty in September 2022 was 9.57 percent, up 0.03 percent from March 2022, but down 0.14 percent from September 2021, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
 
In September 2022, there were 26.36 million poor people in Indonesia, increasing by 0.20 million people compared to March 2022 but decreasing by of 0.14 million people compared to September 2021.
 
In March 2022, the percentage of the poor in urban areas was 7.50 percent. The percentage than rose by 0.03 percent in September 2022 to 7.53 percent. 

On the other hand, the percentage of the poor in rural areas in March 2022 was 12.29 percent. The percentage then increased to 12.36 percent in September 2022.
 
"The number of poor people in urban areas in September 2022 increased by 0.16 million people from 11.82 million people in March 2022," the BPS said in a media release on Monday.
 
"Meanwhile the number of the poor in rural areas increased by 0.04 million people, from 14.34 million people in March 2022 to 14.38 million people in September 2022," it added.
 
The poverty line in September 2022 was IDR 535,547.00/capita/month. It consists of the Food Poverty Line at IDR 397,125.00 (74.15 percent) and the Non- Food Poverty Line at IDR 138,422.00 (25.85 percent).
 
In September 2022, poor households in Indonesia had an average of 4.34 household members. Thus, the poverty line per poor household on average is IDR 2,324,274.00/poor household/month.
