East Lampung: Half of the population of Sumatran rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) live within the area of Way Kambas National Park located in East Lampung Regency, Lampung Province.
“Among 80 rhinos that are alive in Sumatra’s forest, 40 live in this national park, while others are scattered around some national parks over the island,” Way Kambas National Park head Subakir stated Friday, November 29, 2019.
According to the official, seven are held captive at Way Kambas wildlife reserve center, while 33 live at its jungle area.
Secured against any form of forest exploration, the national park is a suitable place to become the habitat of Sumatran rhinos
“Here, we guard the forest to provide a natural environment for the rhinos to breed,” he noted.
While commemorating World Rhinos Day in late September this year, The Lampung government inaugurated its Suaka Rhino Sumatera (SRS) II, the extension of its existing SRS I as a rhino reserve center. (Antara)
