Jakarta: 23 suspected terrorists were taken to Jakarta from Lampung on Wednesday. All of them are members of Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) terror group.
"The Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) arrested 23 suspected JI terrorists in Lampung. They traveled to Jakarta by plane. Two of them are on our most wanted list," said National Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Ahmad Ramadhan here on Wednesday.
According to Ahmad, the two most wanted fugitives are Taufik Bulaga alias Upik Lawanga and Zulkarnaen alias Arif Sunarso Panglima Askari.
"Upiq is a JI member who is capable to create bombs and other weapons. Zulkarnaen is linked to a bomb attack in Bali in 2002. Zulkarnaen can create high-explosive bombs and also firearms," Ahmad said.
According to the police official, the 23 suspected terorists will be held in the maximum-security terrorist detention center in Cikeas, Bogor Regency, West Java Province.
"They were immediately transported to the terrorist detention center," he stated.
