3 People Killed after Strong Earthquake Hits Majene

Jakarta: At least three people were killed and 24 injured after a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Majene Regency and its nearby regions in West Sulawesi Province on Friday early morning.
 
According to the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Majene Regency, more than 2,000 residents have been evacuated to secure locations.
 
"In Mamuju, Hotel Maleo and West Sulawesi Governor's Office were heavily damaged by the earthquake," said the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesperson Raditya Jati in a press release on Friday morning.

In addition, the strong earthquake caused landslides along the Majene-Mamuju access road and damaged more than 60 buildings in the region.
 
Based on information issued by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Friday's earthquake occurred at around 01.28 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
 
With a depth of 10 kilometers, the epicenter of the earthquake was located six kilometers northeast of Majene.
 
A day earlier, the same area was struck by a magnitude 5.9 earthquake.
