Ankara: The Indonesia Ambassador to Turkey, Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, gives clarification regarding the claim of Ankara's purchase of the Nusantara Vaccine. He confirmed that the news was not true.

"The results of my clarification to the competent authorities in Turkey can be ascertained that there has never been any thought, plan, or discussion by the Turkish government to buy the Nusantara Vaccine in Indonesia," Iqbal said in a statement, Monday, August 30, 2021.

He added that there was also no discussion about the possibility of a third phase of Nusantara Vaccine clinical trial in Turkey.

"The latest case number (covid-19 pandemic) in Turkey is below 17,000 cases per day. Complete vaccination (2 doses) has reached 45 percent of the population and is targeted to reach 70 percent in the next month," explained Iqbal.

"So Turkey is not suitable for phase 3 vaccine clinical trials," he added.

He added that currently Turkey has developed three types of homemade vaccines, with two of them already entering phase three clinical trials.

Previously, it was widely reported that Turkey had ordered 5.2 million doses of Nusantara Vaccine made in Indonesia. The news was crowded on Twitter by including news from several Indonesian media.

The news quoted a statement from UNAIR Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Chairul Anwar Nidom, who said that Turkey had ordered the Nusantara vaccine.
