Jakarta: The Ministry of Environment and Forestry planss to give strict sanctions to companies responsible for land and forest fires, one of which is to confiscate their profits.
The Director General for Integrated Law Enforcement of the Environment and Forestry Ministry, Rasio Rido, said that the existing penalties and fines are not enough. He revealed that some companies refuse to pay them.
“We have filed suits and given administrative penalties against them. We are now considering confiscating their profits,” Rido said here on Monday, September 24, 2019.
According to him, many companies deliberately ignite fire to clear land. Few years, they use the cleared land for industrial purposes.
“After they have successfully ignited fire to clear more land, they will later use it for industrial usage,” he said.
Besides that, the responsible companies will also be charged for violating the Law on Money Laundering and other regulations. He hopes that these strict measures can prevent similar cases in the future. (Translator: Muhammad Gestinev)
