Lebak: Floods, triggered by continual torrential rains, flooded the sub-districts of Sobang and Leuwidamar in Lebak regency, Banten Province.
The downpour continued on Friday morning and will likely further worsen the flooding, Bernardi, an officer of the Lebak disaster mitigation office, remarked here on Friday.
In Sobang, flooding hit the villages of Ciparasi and Sukajaya, while three villages of Lebak Pariang,Leuwidamar, and Wantisari in Leuwidamar were inundated, he remarked.
"We have ordered local volunteers to assist in evacuating the flood victims," he noted.
Several rivers overflowed their banks due to incessant heavy rains, he pointed out.
Floodwaters, reaching up to a meter in height, will likely rise further owing to continued rainfall.
On May 13, incessant torrential rains lashed Rangkasbitung, Lebak, Banten. As the result, flooding inundated tens of homes and several roads in the area.
Residential areas in Pasir Kongsen, Kampung Sawah, and Komplek Pendidikan reeled under the impact of the floods.
No less than 35 homes were submerged, but the floodwaters had begun to subside on Monday morning.
Kaprawi, the Lebak disaster mitigation office head, noted that since the floodwaters had subsided swiftly, those affected by the flooding chose to stay put in their homes.
The authorities deployed seven water pumps to tackle flooding in the residential areas.
Rangkasbitung is susceptible to flooding during the rainy season, as garbage had blocked most parts of its drainage systems. (Antara)
