JAKARTA - Floods hit several areas in Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra Province on Wednesday. The flooding was triggered by torrential rain which caused the Paiman River to overflow.
According to the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of South Pesisir Regency, the affected areas area Koto XI Tarusan, North Bayang, Bayang, IV Jurai and Batang Kapas. However, the flooding has satrted to recede today.
Apart from flooding, landslides also occurred in this region. Due to unstable soil conditions and triggered by high rainfall, the road access from Padang Paiman to Bengkulu was buried by landslide materials.
"BPBD also reported that one house was severely damaged due to this incident," said the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesperson Raditya Jati said in a press release on Thursday.
Meanwhile, according to weather forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the dry season in most parts of Indonesia can still last until October, especially in most parts of Java Island.
Moreover, the rainy season in Indonesia will start gradually at the end of October, especially in the western part of Indonesia.
