Jakarta: Head of the Committee for Covid-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN) and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir has said that the total number of confirmed covid-19 cases in Indonesia might reach 500 thousand in the end of 2020.
"If it increases by 3,000 every day, it might reach 500 thousand in the end of December," he said here on Friday.
To tackle the spread of coronavirus in the country, the Indonesian government recently launched a mask-wearing operation. In the beginning of the operation, the authorities distrubuted 34,355,019 masks.
"If we want to lower the number of daily new cases, we need to strictly implement health protocols," he stated.
"Moreover, hopefully the upcoming vaccination program could also help lower it," he added.
On Friday, the Indonesian Ministry of Health confirmed 3,737 new covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed covid-19 cases in Indonesia to 210,940.
