Pekalongan: Floods, triggered by torrential rains, claimed one life and compelled 818 others to evacuate to higher ground in the Central Java city of Pekalongan on Thursday, February 20, 2020.
The flooding affected several parts of the city, including Sampangan, Kauman Ledok, Krapyak, Bugisan, Kali Loji, Bandengan, Poncol, and Kraton, with the floodwaters reaching 20-50 centimeters in depth.
By 9 a.m. local time, the weather in the city was overcast along with drizzle.
According to Spokesman for the Pekalongan City Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD) Saminta, the rains lashing since Wednesday evening until Thursday morning inundated most parts of the city.
The rains also caused the Bremi River and Meduri River to overflow their banks and inundating Tirto and the other areas. (Antara)
