Jakarta: Public policy observer, Lisman Manurung, has urged the Jakarta provincial administrattion to limit the amount of motorcycles in the capital.
Earlier this month, the Jakarta government recently decided to expand its Odd-Even License Plate traffic policy. Nevertheless, the policy still does not apply to motorcycles.
“Ideally, unregistered motorcycles should not be able to enter Jakarta. China has already implemented this approach," she said here on Tuesday.
"In China, people cannot bring vehicles from outside the city. So the amount of air pollution can be reduced,” she added.
She critized the Jakarta government's decision to exclude motorcycles from the policy. She argued that motorcycles contribute more to air polution than any other types of vehicles.
“If the number keeps increasing, this can be really problematic," Lisman said.
"We should reduce the number of both cars and motorcycles” she concluded. (Translator: Muhammad Gestinev)
