Lion Air Postpones Delivery of Boeing 737 Max 8 Planes

Jakarta: Lion Air Group has decided to postpone the delivery of four Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft this year out of the 222 it has ordered until 2035.
 
"After the JT 610 accident, we have met with Boeing to postpone the delivery for the time being. The delivery was supposed to be in April, but we reject it. For the time being, it is put on hold," Managing Director of the Lion Air Group Daniel Putut stated at the Indonesia Aviation Training & Education Conference (IATEC) 2019 in the capital city of Jakarta on Tuesday.
 
Lion Air currently has 10 Boeing 737 Max 8 planes.

"Four (Boeing 737 Max 8s) were supposed to be delivered in May. Under these current circumstances, (delivery of) the four is still awaited," he remarked.
 
In addition to suspending Boeing 737 Max 8 flights to comply with the circular of the Directorate General of Air Transportation at the Transportation Ministry, Putut revealed that Lion Air had conducted an internal inspection of all Boeing 737 Max 8s.
 
"We have grounded (the planes) ourselves. We have inspected the planes ourselves," he remarked.
 
Putut made assurance that the suspended operation and delivery of Boeing 737 Max 8s will not disrupt Lion Air's operations due to the ongoing lean season.
 
On Sunday, the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 Flight 302 aircraft crashed to the ground shortly after takeoff, killing 157 passengers and crew, including one Indonesian citizen.
 
The doomed plane departed from Bole Airport in Addis Ababa at 8:38 a.m. local time, before losing contact with the control tower just a few minutes later at 8:44 a.m. local time.
 
Besides Indonesia, a number of countries have decided to ground Boeing 737 Max aircraft in the wake of the crash, including China, Singapore, Malaysia, Singapore, India and European countries. (Antara)
