Landslides Kill 11 People in Tarakan

Jakarta: Landslides hit Tarakan Municipality in North Kalimantan Province on Monday early morning, killing at least 11 residents.
 
According to the Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the landslides were triggered by torrential rain in the region.
 
"Three others were reported injured," said BNPB's Data, Information and Communication Center Head Raditya Jati in a press release on Monday.

Apart from human casualties, this disaster aslo damaged as many as 19 houses and buildings.
 
Meanwhile, according to weather forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the rainy season in Indonesia will start gradually in October, especially in the western part of Indonesia.
 
However, the dry season in most parts of Indonesia can still last until October, especially in most parts of Java Island.
 
During the seasonal transition period and before the rainy season, the community is urged to remain vigilant and  prepared.
 
Prevention and preparedness at the family and community level are crucial to stay safe amidst the threat of hydrometeorological hazards.
