Jakarta: A 6.8 magnitude earthquake shook Ambon, Maluku at 06.46 AM Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on Thursday, September 26, 2019.
According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the epicenter of the earthquake was located 40 kilometers northewst of Ambon. The earthquake did not trigger tsunami warnings.
"The earthquake was felft for almost a minute. Most residents immediately went to safer places," Metro TV journalist Hamdi told Headline News Metro TV this morning.
Hamdi said that the earthquake caused panic in Ambon. He also said that the disaster damaged many homes and buildings.
Hamdi explained a number of aftershocks were felt not long after. As a result, many people chose to stay outside their homes.
