Jakarta: Mount Merapi, which stands on the border of Yogyakarta and Central Java, erupted at 05.22 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, spewing a column of hot clouds up to 6,000 meters above its summit.

"According to the seismogram, the amplitude was 75 mm, while the duration was 450 seconds (7.5 minutes)," stated the Institute for Investigation and Development of Geological Disaster Technology (BPPTKG) on its official twitter page on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

During the eruption, the wind was blowing in a north direction. Meanwhile, the lava was flowing to the direction of Kali Gendol upstream.

BPPTKG urged locals to stay calm and resume their daily activities. Nevertheless, the agency instructed locals to avoid conducting activities within a three-kilometer radius of the peak of the volcano.
