Sorong: A flood and landslide that struck Sorong, West Papua Province, on Thursday, claimed the lives of four people while caused injuries to three residents, according to the Sorong Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD).
Of the four dead victims, three were buried by the landslide, whereas one was electrocuted, Sorong BPBD Head Herlin Sasabone reported.
"The count of injured flood victims reaches three. The Sorong BPBD is still collecting data on the other likely injured people and the number of houses submerged by flooding and buried by the landslide," Sasabone stated.
Flooding swamped several roads, especially in the Rawa Indah area, leading to hundreds of vehicles being stuck in the area on early Friday.
In the meantime, flash floods that struck parts of North Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi Province, claimed 24 lives and rendered 69 others missing.
On Monday, floods struck the areas of Masamba, Sabbang, Baebunta, South Baebunta, Malangke, and West Malangke in North Luwu. (antara)
