Jakarta: Presidential Chief of Staff Moelodoko has said that Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto could directly appoint his deputy.
"It could be picked by the TNI commander himself or the president," said the retired Army general at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta on Thursday, November 7, 2019.
Moeldoko said that the deputy commander would probably be filled by one of the chiefs of staff from the three branches of the TNI. However, he did not yet know who would fill the position.
"Ask the Commander, don’t ask me," said Moeldoko.
The official ensured that the position would not cause a divide. He stressed that there would be no dualism in TNI.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo signed Presidential Decree Number 66 of 2019 concerning the Organization Structure of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI). The Decree regulates the position of deputy TNI commander.
The position was abolished in the era of President Abdurrahman Wahid. The last deputy TNI commander was Fachrul Razi who now serves as Minister of Religious Affairs.
