Jakarta: PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) predicts the volume of train passengers will increase by 4 percent compared to 2018, from 5.6 million to 5.9 million passengers.PT KAI has added 404 train trips to accommodate passenger surges.
"374 Regular Trains are added with 30 Nataru (Christmas and New Years) Trains. So that makes a total of 404 train trips. This addition is up 2 percent compared to 2018," explained KAI Managing Director Edi Sukmoro at Gambir Station, Central Jakarta on Thursday, December 19, 2019.
PT KAI said it was ready to welcome the year-end holiday season. This holiday period will last for 18 days from 19 December 2019 to 5 January 2020.
KAI has prepared a total of 1,740 officers to secure train travel along the Java and Sumatra railways. The 1,740 officers consist of 477 extra lane inspection officers, 908 extra crossing gate guards, and other guards.
In addition, KAI has prepared 11,191 security personnel consisting of 1,480 Railroad police (Polsuska) personnel, 8,761 security guards, and 950 personnel from the Armed Forces-National Police (TNI-Polri) external assistance force. They will stand guard in the trains and stations.
"During the 2019 Christmas and 2020 New Year, all KAI employees are maximized to help smooth services at stations and are not allowed to take annual leave," said Edi.
"It is expected that with the maximum preparation for KAI to welcome Christmas and New Year's Transportation, the entire process of the holiday exodus goes smoothly without obstacles," explained Edi.
