Jakarta: Power supply was restored in several regions to the people in Jakarta following a temporary blackout due to floods, the state-owned electricity firm PLN noted in a statement here on Thursday, January 2, 2019.
When waters swamped some major thoroughfares and residential areas in Jakarta, at least 3,311 power stations of total 23,700 units were shut down since 6 p.m. local time on Wednesday, January 1, 2019.
According to the firm's executive vice president corporate communication I Made Suprateka, some power stations in Bintaro, Ciputat, Ciracas, Kebon Jeruk, Kramat Djati, Marunda, Pondok Gede, parts of Pondok Kopi and Menteng in Jakarta were returned to normal.
However, some electricity generators in Bandengan, Bulungan, Cempaka Putih, Cengkareng, and Lenteng Agung remained off over security concerns, as the water levels are high.
"PLN apologizes for the temporary power outage. We will restore the power once it is safe for everyone. The firm will make assurance of no injuries by electric shock. The people's safety is our foremost priority," the PLN official emphasized.
Floods submerged several parts of Jakarta and the nearby towns, including Serpong in South Tangerang and Bekasi on Wednesday morning, compelling at least 19,109 residents to flee their homes to higher ground. (Antara)
